By Eric George: My wife woke up that morning and headed off to work while I slept in a little since I had class later that morning. I turned on the Today Show and saw the first tower burning. I didn't know what to make of it at first. My wife called me from the road, asking if something was going on. She said she was listening to Bob & Tom, and they sounded very somber. I told her about the tower burning and would keep her posted. When the second plane hit, the Today Show anchors freaked out, as did I. I called my wife and told her what happened, and she sped to work as quick as she could to find out more.
When they switched to the picture of the Pentagon on fire, I called my mom to check on her and she was crying. My dad was in London on business, and she was having trouble reaching him. I was able to get through to him in London, and his company's office was going crazy. He got scared because he didn't know when he would be able to come home.
Later that night, we went out looking for an American flag, but every place was sold out. I'll never forget the amount of patriotism that showed after this event. When college football resumed playing, I found myself standing for the national anthem in the middle of my living room. That event did something to all of us.
