George P. "Pop Tart" Mundy, 79, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, April 10, 2021, at his home. A private family service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for George Mundy, under the video tab starting at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom.
Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of facemasks or shields is required.
Survivors include two daughters, Michelle (Conrad) Ullrich of Mechanicsville and Julie (Gary) Barr of Cedar Rapids; and a son, George Jr. (Suzanne) of Minnesota. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Warren; two brothers and three sisters.
George was born Oct. 3, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Warren and Mary (Cole) Mundy. He married Delores J. Rowland in 1964 in Cedar Rapids. They were later divorced.
George worked in construction in the Cedar Rapids area as a concrete finisher for many years. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, sunbathing, and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He also enjoyed the time spent with his family especially his beloved grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
