January is almost over.
January is usually my blue period. But it's almost over. Almost.
However, there's one more batch of Fun Facts to be dispersed before we enter into (ugh) February.
1. Wisconsin, as Iowa fans know all too well, beat Iowa 82-50 in Madison on Jan. 20. It was the Badgers' most-lopsided win in the series 160-game history. (Wisconsin leads, 81-79.)
2. Iowa's largest win over the Badgers was 101-48 in 1986. Wanting his team to get a shot at 100 points, Hawkeyes walk-on guard Bart Casey fouled a Badger player with 11 seconds left and Iowa up 99-48. The subsequent free throw was missed and Brad Lohaus rebounded. Lohaus whipped a pass to Casey, who was fouled going up for a shot. He made his two free throws to get the Hawkeyes over 100 points.
3. Iowa will be going for its 1,000th home win. It is 999-351 at home in games dating to 1901. This probably should have been No. 1 on this list. It will be before the Hawkeyes' next home game if they lose this one.
4. Wisconsin's last loss was Jan. 11, at Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights are 0-5 since and have lost those games by an average of 13.8 points.
5. Rutgers is at Iowa on Feb. 19.
6. Iowa's Jarrod Uthoff has played three games against his former Wisconsin team. Uthoff is shooting 52.6 percent from the field (10-of-19) against the Badgers. He is a 44.8 percent shooter over his college career.
7. Wisconsin had just one turnover in its previous game against Iowa. The Badgers rank first in the nation in fewest turnovers per game with 7.8.
8. However, the Badgers are only fourth in the Big Ten in turnover margin, behind Ohio State, Minnesota and Illinois.
9. Four Badgers played 40 or more minutes in their 69-64 overtime win at Michigan last Saturday. White leads the Haweyes with most minutes played in a game this season, with 37 at Ohio State on Dec. 30.
10. In the latest DraftExpress.com 2015 NBA mock draft, Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky is 13th and Sam Dekker is 17th. According to this season's Wisconsin basketball media guide, both players are majoring in life science communication, as are teammates Traevon Jackson and Vitto Brown.
11. UW-Madison was 13th in the September 2014 U.S. News & World Report rankings of public universities and colleges.
12. Iowa is 5-0 historically against the rest of the University of Wisconsin system. The Hawkeyes are 2-0 against both UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee, 1-0 against UW-Eau Claire.
13. Wisconsin is ranked fifth in this week's Associated Press Top 25. The lowest vote the Badgers got was 10th, from Aaron Brenner of the Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier. Brenner is a Wisconsin graduate. He once covered Hawkeyes basketball for the Quad City Times.
14. Wisconsin is the highest-ranked team from the Central time zone. The Badgers are 8-0 against teams located in the Central time zone. Iowa is 5-4.
15. This isn't really a Fun Fact, but here's an interesting story on Wisconsin point guard Bronson Koenig, who is seeking to be a role model for Native Americans.
