Jul. 27, 2010 12:16 pm
Delaware County has been re-opened its old landfill for a limited time for the convenience of residents disposing of flood debris.
The landfill on Highway 38 south of Delhi will be open for about three weeks, according to Jack Klaus of the county Emergency Management Team.
It will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It will be closed Wednesday and Sunday.
Debris needs to be separated into white goods – appliances and electronics; household hazardous materials – paints and cleaners; and debris – drywall, carpet and furniture.
There will be no charge for Delaware County residents, he said, because FEMA will cover the cost.
Teri Tyler, of Cedar Rapids, hands a box of dishes to her father, Max Anderson, at his flooded home in the Freddy's Beach area of Lake Delhi in Delaware County on Sunday, July 25, 2010. Max and his wife, Vonda Anderson have lived in their home at 26202 208th Avenue since 1962, and had never had water in it. (Julie Koehn/The Gazette)
