Fire destroys truck trailer at southwest Cedar Rapids steel firm
Firefighters were called to All State Steel, 31 41st Ave. SW, at 10:19 p.m. Tuesday for a truck fire and possible explosions heard by callers.
Fire crews arrived to find a flat-bed truck fully involved with fire. A Dumpster immediately in front of the truck was also on fire.
The truck, owned by Todd Ostwinkle of American Rebar and Supply, was a complete loss. There were Styrofoam sheets on the flatbed that were consumed with the fire.
Four tandem-axle utility trailers sustained minor damage. One of the trailers belonged to All State Steel and the other three belonged to Cedar Valley Steel.
A fiberglass ladder and some tires in the vicinity were also damaged from heat. The fire's cause is under investigation.
