Law enforcement officials investigating the disappearance and death of Lyric Cook-Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins are looking for the driver of an SUV spotted near Meyers Lake the day of their disappearance.
However, police emphasized the driver is not a suspect or person of interest at this time.
Cook-Morrissey, of Waterloo; and Collins, of Evansdale; were last on July 13 riding their bicycles. The bikes and Elizabeth's purse were found near the recreational trail around Meyer's Lake in Evansdale. A massive search for the cousins was launched and involved multiple agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The girls' bodies were found on Dec. 5 in Seven Bridges Wildlife Park in Bremer County, about 20 miles from Meyers Lake.
No arrests have been made.
On Monday, the Evansdale Police Department said they received information that an older model, white, full-size SUV, possibly a Chevy Suburban, Ford Bronco or similar vehicle, was parked at or near the lake along Arbutus Street on July 13. Capt. Rick Abben of the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office said investigators would like to speak with occupant or occupants of the SUV or anyone who knows who might have been in the vehicle.
“Investigators stress that the person(s) in the vehicle should not be considered a suspect or ‘person of interest,' but that they may have information important to the investigation,” the press release stated.
Police are asking the public to share any information they may have to identify the occupant of the SUV. Anyone with information can call the Tip Line at 319-232-6682, Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers at 1-855-300-TIPS or email ourmissingiowagirls@dps.state.ia.us.
