DES MOINES -- In five weeks, Kyle Dunn went from ineligible back to invincible.
Dunn concluded a spectacular state track meet by winning his third event of the weekend, the Class 4A 110-meter hurdles, Saturday at Drake Stadium.
"It's been a great weekend, especially to finish like this," said Dunn, a senior at Linn-Mar who will compete for the University of Arkansas next season. "The highs had been elusive for me. I can't think of a better way to finish."
Dunn went to the wire with Davenport Central's Dwayne Phillips before prevailing at the end. He was timed in 14.82 seconds, Phillips in 14.85.
"It kind of came down to whoever adapted to the conditions, to the little gusts of wind," Dunn said.
"It was a back-and-forth battle."
And the culmination of an up-and-down season. Five weeks before basking in glory at Drake Stadium, Dunn was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He missed three meets, including the Drake Relays.
"Look at this season, and 35 days ago I was at rock bottom," Dunn said. "Today, I'm at the top of the world."
Cedar Falls won the 4A boys' team title with 57 points. West Des Moines Valley was second with 51, followed by Linn-Mar (48) and Cedar Rapids Washington (39).
Washington reigned in 2009 and 2010.
Dunn anchored Linn-Mar's runner-up shuttle hurdle relay team. Brandon Ophoff, Colton Sanchez, Mike Keiser and Dunn were clocked in 56.99 seconds. Urbandale won it in 56.74.
Cedar Rapids Prairie's Kyle Stocker was second in the 800 (1:55.88) and fourth in the 1,600.
Stocker briefly held the lead at the front of the stretch before Larry Lipscomb of Johnston came on to win the 800.
"I don't think I was prepared to be in the lead. I was confused," Stocker said. "I was thinking, 'Where is everybody?' "
Washington's Will Griffin was the 100-meter runner-up -- behind Cedar Falls' James Harrington -- and ran on the Warriors' fourth-place 400-meter relay.
Harrington's 200 effort of 21.16 is Iowa all-time Iowa best among fully automatic times.
