Ducks end player agreement with Iowa Chops

May. 11, 2009 12:08 pm
The NHL's Anaheim Ducks have ended their player-development agreement with the AHL's Iowa Chops after only one season because owners of the Chops owe the Ducks significant money for player, coaches and staff salaries, Anaheim GM Bob Murray told the Des Moines Register.
"They didn't meet their financial commitment,” Murray told the Register. “They're nowhere near it.”
The Chops are owned by Schlegel Sports of Dallas. The company also owns the Tacoma Rainiers Triple-A baseball franchise and a junior hockey team in the Dallas area. This was the first season of a two-year agreement between the Chops and Ducks. The Des Moines AHL franchise was previously associated with the NHL's Dallas Stars.
