DEBORAH FOURNET COVELL
Cedar Rapids
On Monday, March 29, 2021, Deborah Fournet (Carter) Covell, passed away at the age of 67, in Hiawatha.
Deb was the cool mom. The fun maker. The energy in the room. She was a famous frown destroyer, gifted at bringing people together with laughter and joy. She remembered your name, your friends, your spouse, your dog. Her wide smile and warm eyes encouraged you to open your heart and share your story.
Deb tended to be remembered. Since her passing, her family has received messages of condolence from countless people who adored her. Friends, neighbors, coworkers (including from her most recent job as an elementary school health secretary at Kenwood Leadership Academy, where she loved spending time with kids), speak of Deb's vibrant and charismatic aura.
Her happy place was by the water, a lake ideally, with days full of kayaking followed by evenings with friends and family, drinking wine and swapping stories on the dock. This is where her family imagines she is now – and she's just waiting for everyone else to arrive.
Deb was born in Omaha, Neb., grew up in Des Moines, and later moved to Cedar Rapids where she attended Jefferson High School (Class of 1972). She raised a family and then moved to Burlington, Vermont where she lived for 10 years before settling back in Iowa. She traveled often; loved France, New England and Cape Cod. She spoke of traveling with passion and encouraged all to seek an adventurous life.
Deb will be dearly missed. Her children, Jonathon Covell, Ashley Clark, Adam Clark and his wife Lisa Clark, cherish her memory with stories about the best, most supportive mom ever. Her grandchildren, Makenna Clark, Cayden Clark, and Connor Dalziel will remember the love of a wonderful grandma. And her mother, Joanne Bollman, and brothers, Steve Carter and Brian Carter, carry with them precious memories of Deb.
Her family and friends plan to celebrate her legacy by sharing memories of the laughter and energy she brought to the world. This Celebration of Life (more like a party, which Deb would've wanted) will be held on from 6 to 9 p.m. May 13, at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Deb's name to Kenwood Leadership Academy and/or a charity of your choice.
