Davitt to Arizona to get elbow checked

Apr. 24, 2009 6:42 pm
Just found out Cedar Rapids Kernels starting pitcher Michael Davitt is headed to Arizona tomorrow to get a sore right pitching elbow examined by doctors of the parent Los Angeles Angels. He has been placed on the disabled list.
Davitt was supposed to start Sunday's game in Peoria, but that won't happen, obviously. He is 1-0 with a 4.32 earned run average in three starts for Cedar Rapids this season.
"I'll be back," Davitt said after Friday night's game.
To replace him on the active roster, pitcher Matt Shoemaker has been sent to Cedar Rapids from extended spring training. Shoemaker, 22, pitched three games last season for the Arizona Rookie League Angels. He is a non-drafted free agent from Eastern Michigan.
