Christopher L. Strickland, 26, of Coralville, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary and a felony charge of going armed with intent to injure on Wednesday afternoon in Iowa City.
Strickland was allegedly seen reaching through the open window of a parked vehicle on Sandusky Drive, removing a woman's purse and sifting through its contents. The purse did not contain any money, and nothing was stolen, Iowa City Police said.
Reports indicate that the woman told her boyfriend about the incident, and he was able to locate Strickland not far from the home. After having a confrontation, the boyfriend returned to the residence.
Later Strickland returned to the residence with two knives and another individual. He then taunted the woman and her boyfriend, committing property damage in the process. Strickland also attempted to enter the residence, but was deterred by a BB gun, police said.
Strickland and the co-participant allegedly admitted to police that they had intended to assault the woman and her boyfriend.
Strickland was being held on the Johnson County Jail on Thursday morning.
Going armed with intent to injure is a class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $7,500 fine. Third-degree burglary of an unoccupied motor vehicle is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a maximum $6,250 fine.
