Class A semifinal football capsule: Lisbon vs. Mason City Newman

Nov. 10, 2011 2:50 pm
- Time, site - 10:30 a.m., UNI-Dome, Cedar Falls
- Records, rankings - No. 3 Newman is 11-1, No. 1 Lisbon is 12-0.
- Notable - This is the first semifinal appearance for Lisbon, the fourth for Newman. The Knights were Class A runners-up in 2009. Big key is whether Lisbon quarterback Ben Knake will play. He was injured in Lisbon's quarterfinal win over Lone Tree. Knake has accounted for over 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns rushing and passing. Tait Simpson is the Lions' leading rusher (1,037 yards and 22 TDs). Lisbon is scoring at a 49.5 clip and allowing just 5.8 points per game, pitching six shutouts. Newman's lone loss was 21-0 to Class 1A semifinalist Saint Ansgar in Week 3. Sophomore Joe Burgmeier is the team's leading rusher, with 1,498 yards and 24 touchdowns. Quarterback Gabe Dunn has thrown for over 900 yards and is completing 69 percent of his throws.
