Cedar Rapids teens accused of assault near Metro High School

Two teens face assault charges based on allegations they assaulted a third teen near Metro High School Monday.

Devan A. Barger, 18, of Cedar Rapids, and Jacob M. Kimpton, 18, were arrested Monday for assault causing injury for assaulting another 18-year-old male in Poets Park, 1215 Seventh Street SE, police reported.

Officers were called to the park around 11:15 a.m. Monday and found the victim with injuries to his face, Public Safety Spokesman Greg Buelow said. Police called for an ambulance to make sure he did not have any serious injuries.

The victim and witnesses identified Barger and Kimpton, who were later located in the 1400 block of Fifth Avenue SE. Both were arrested and taken to the Linn County Jail.

Based on information collected by officers, the victim, Barger and Kimpton knew each other, Buelow said.
