Cause of Lake Delhi Marina fire undetermined

An investigation by the state fire marshal's office has failed to determine what started the fire that destroyed the Lake Delhi Marina in July.

“There was extensive damage to the property, and so we could not determine the cause of the fire,” Jessica Lown, spokeswoman for the state Department of Public Safety, said Tuesday afternoon.

Lown said the investigation into the July 15 fire has been closed, and its cause will be listed as undetermined.

Reported shortly after 3 a.m., the fire destroyed the marina and more than $1 million worth of boats.

Lown said investigators couldn't rule out lightning as a cause of the fire, but there wasn't sufficient evidence to fix it as the cause.

“There was lightning at the time, or about the time,” she said.
