Robin Brand has been recommended as the new varsity softball coach at Mount Vernon High School.
If hired by the school board, Brand will succeed Gary Stamp, who died of lung cancer in October.
Brand served as Stamp's assistant last year, and is the school's sophomore volleyball coach and serves as a first-grade teacher in the school system.
She served as Head Softball Coach at Guthrie Center in Western Iowa from 1997 to 2000. She has also been a head coach in volleyball and swimming.
"I am completely confident that Robin Brand will provide the leadership our highly successful softball team is accustomed to. She is passionate about softball and has lofty expectations for our program," said Mount Vernon Athletics Director Duane Orr.
"She has been involved from the "ground up" and has a keen understanding of overall program development. Finally, and most importantly, she cultivates strong relationships with players that transcend the high school competitive experience. She understands the role of high school athletics, and will use softball as an opportunity to enhance the educational experience for our players."
