Boys Substate Hoops

Some great high school basketball at the U.S. Cellular Center last night in Cedar Rapids.

It's tough to argue to with Marion's Amry Shelby scoring 41 of the Indians' 86 to defeat Mount Pleasant. 

Coaches make for interesting pics too.

The Mount Vernon-Dubuque Wahlert game was great. It was neck and neck late into the game. If only the Mustangs had another minute or two on the clock. It likely would have been a different outcome. 

The U.S. Cellular Center is pretty dark for action-stopping available light photography. A good exposure is somewhere around 1/200th and 2.8 at ISO 3200. Not good for stopping action. So we mount Elinchrom strobes in the catwalk. Thanks Scott and Jason!

With the strobes, I can concentrate on capturing the action and emotion in these do-or-die games instead of just hoping I have the action captured and a good exposure at such a slow shutter speed.
