Big Ten Media Day: Indiana Coach Bill Lynch

(Indiana plays at Iowa on Oct. 31. … The last time the Hoosiers were in Iowa City was 2007, when they recorded nine quarterback sacks and won, 38-20. … Iowa thrashed IU last year in Kinnick, 45-9.)
CHICAGO -- Comments from Indiana Coach Bill Lynch Monday at the Big Ten's football Media Day:
(He's going position by position. I'm sorry, but I'm not interested. Joe Paterno is next, and he'll have something curmudgeony for us.)
Indiana has a 25,000 square-foot weight room under construction, and Lynch says he's excited about it.
"If we could extend the season a little bit (meaning with a bye week or 2), I think it would be a positive."
"We needed to be more multiple in what we were doing. We had been exclusively in the spread. In some ways, I think defenses have caught up with the spread. Teams in the spread (have added new things). ... We wanted to be able to run the football better, downhill running. ... We wanted to be able to run some power football."
"The one thing we were missing was some big plays in the passing game. (Without James Hardy, no more jump-balls in the downfield passing game)"
"On the defensive side we certainly need to make improvement, but we like what we're doing."
"We would like to get where we're playing a good BCS school as one of our nonconference games ... trying to find schools that are similar to Indiana and what we do. (IU to play at Virginia this year with a return game to come in Bloomington)
On a sorority/fraternity tour on IU's campus to drum up interest: "The sororities were a lot better than the fraternities."
That got laughs, but then Lynch said the sorority girls listened to what he had to say while the frat boys were more interested in their meals.
