Bicycle bells actually work in Europe

Regarding the July 8 letter titled “Fast, quiet bicyclists pose danger on trails”: In Europe, there are many pedestrians and bicyclists. All bicycles have a bell, which is rung when approaching a pedestrian. The pedestrian has a warning to step aside, everyone is safe.
A bicycle bell is inexpensive and effective.
