With temperatures forecast in the mid 80s Friday, The Beach Boys should feel right at home in Eastern Iowa. Except for the lack of an ocean. And sand. And surf.
But otherwise, the ageless Boys will be kicking up the soundtrack of summer at 8 p.m. Friday in the Meskwaki Outdoor Arena at the casino complex near Tama.
Major Day hits the stage at 6 p.m. to warm up the crowd, so to speak.
Original Beach Boys Mike Love and Bruce Johnston and their big backup band will no doubt be reliving those fun, fun, fun days when they churned out hit after sun-kissed hit.
They introduced landlubbers to the joys of surfing and beaches from the Pacific to the Caribbean, from Waimea Bay to down Doheny way. Not to mention Aruba, Jamaica and Key Largo, Montego (go ahead, sing some more - you know you want to).
It wasn't all just surf and sand. They sang the praises of Midwest farmers' daughters, little deuce coupes and little old ladies from Pasadena.
All the bumps in the road have been well documented over the years, but hearing those surfin' sounds and tight harmonies is bound to put a smile on your face. Maybe we'll even hear some tracks off the new “Summer Love Songs” CD.
We feel those good vibrations already.
Concert tickets are $30 and $50 at Club Meskwaki,
www.meskwaki.com and 1-(800) 728-4263, Ext. 2230.
