Belle Plaine nursing home fined $10,000 over resident's broken leg

Belle Plaine Nursing & Rehab Center was fined $10,000 over a resident's unexplained fractured femur, according to a citation report from the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals.

The report was published March 16 after facility survey dates in February and March.

The incident occurred Feb. 1. The resident, who was a hospice patient, died four days later, on Feb. 5.

Joe Thornton, an attorney representing Belle Plaine Nursing & Rehab Center, said the nursing home is appealing the case.
