Armed robbery reported in Iowa City

The Iowa City Police Department is investigating a robbery that happened early Thursday morning.
Officers responded to the reported robbery in the area of Wayne and Essex streets at 12:09 p.m. Police said the victim was walking his dog on the path that connects Muscatine and Wayne avenues when he was approached by a subject wielding a gun. The suspect - described as a black man, 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a dark jacket, stocking hat and mask - demanded money, then fled after taking cash from the victim's wallet. Police said the victim was not injured in the robbery.
Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 cash for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS.
