Ricky Putman, 41, of Arlington, accused of sexually assaulting a toddler, pleaded not guilty in a written arraignment today in Fayette County District Court.
A pre-trial hearing is set 9:30 a.m. July 19 and a trial date is set for Aug. 4.
Putman, charged with first-degree sexual abuse, was a friend of the child's family and the assault took place in the child's home, according to police. The girl's parents reported the incident to police May 23.
The child was taken to Mercy Hospital in Oelwein and then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment.
Putman faces a mandatory life sentence if convicted.
