An Aplington man was charged with first-degree burglary and assault with intent to commit sex abuse after he was alleged to have entered a Kalona residence early Thursday with a rifle.
Dallas J. Miller, 22, is accused of entering the bedroom of a Kalona woman around 2:20 a.m. Thursday with a camera and roll of tape, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office reported.
He then broke off the door knob so other family members could not enter the room and put his hands over the woman's face so she could not scream, deputies said.
Miller and the woman knew each other, Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said Friday. He would give no further details and said the incident is still under investigation.
The woman was able to scream and alert her family. Miller then left through a window, deputies reported.
When deputies arrived a few minutes later, they saw Miller's pickup parked 100 yards from the house. They found the rifle outside the woman's door and black tape and a camera found inside her bedroom, deputies reported.
First-degree robbery is a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Assault with intent to commit sex abuse is a Class D felony that carries up to five years in prison.
Miller is being held on $250,000 bond.
