Amarista named Angels' minor-leaguer of month

Despite a rough game Monday, Cedar Rapids Kernels second baseman Alexi Amarista has earned an award from the parent Los Angeles Angels.
The tiny second baseman has been named the Angels' minor league Offensive Player of the Month for July. In 27 games, the 19-year-old Venezuelan hit .376 with eight doubles, four triples, two home runs and 15 RBIs.
He also had 11 walks, four sacrifice bunts and an on-base percentage of .442.
Amarista went 0-for-3 in Cedar Rapids' 7-5 loss Monday afternoon to Beloit at Memorial Stadium.
