Abdelkader gets his NHL playoff chance

Fmer Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Justin Abdelkader got his first shot in the NHL playoffs when he suited up for Game 5 of the Detroit-Anaheim playoff series Sunday. Abdelkader got in 6:32 of ice time for Detroit in its 4-1 win, picking up an assist and team-high nine hits. He also was a plus-1.
Abdelkader, who played for Cedar Rapids in the 2004-05 USHL season, was called up from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League after its season was completed. He was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team, scoring 24 goals and adding 28 assists in 76 games.
