By Cynthia Sallis: We were at Mercy Hospital with my son, Jack. He was in serious condition due to chemo complications, which affected his lungs.
I will never forget; I was watching the TV in the room, and they were talking about a plane that hit one of the towers. At that point, no one was aware it was an attack.
I saw on the screen another plane, and then it went right into the tower. At first I thought it was showing what had already happened, and then I realized it was a second plane hitting the other tower. I was shocked is an understatement.
I could not take my eyes off the television. As I listened, it was obvious our country was under attack. I was terrified. I wanted all my family with me.
It was something I thought I would never see -- the United States under attack. I just could not wrap my mind around what was going on.
