1995 Ford F-150 pickup was Iowa's most-stolen vehicle in 2008
An insurance industry group has identified the 1995 Ford F-150 pickup as the vehicle most often reported stolen in Iowa.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau reported Monday that the state's second most stolen vehicle is the 1997 Ford Taurus, followed by the 2001 Dodge Ram pickup in third place. You can see full, nationwide list here.
The ranking is based on vehicle theft data from 2008.
The bureau says many older models of cars and trucks are targeted by thieves because of valuable parts. Officials say parts stripped out by a chop shop can sometimes sell for twice as much as the vehicle itself would on the used car market.
Nationwide, last year's most-stolen vehicle was the 1994 Honda Accord.
