Knives out on ‘Survivor: Winners at War’
Backstabbing, front-stabbing and strategy upsets turned the tables on 'Survivor: Winners at War” on Wednesday night's episode, dubbed 'Quick on the Draw.”
The knives came out during the Day 16 Immunity Challenge, when knives were needed to break open the heavy bags of rice containing three balls that then were maneuvered through mazes to determine which tribe would be immune from having anyone kicked off the island that night. The other two tribes went back to strategize in their camps in Fiji's tropical Mamanuca Islands.
Cedar Rapids police Detective Sarah Lacina's Yara tribe won the challenge, so she and her castaway castmates went back to camp ready to savor their peanut butter and jelly prize in a place where food is scarce.
The other two tribes brought out their verbal knives, strategizing who they would vote to the Edge of Extinction, where those contestants try to work their way back into contention for the $2 million Sole Survivor prize.
Sele tribe members bickered their way through the day, and that nigh kicked Parvati Shallow off the island.
Denise Stapley, a mental health therapist from Marion, played it cool and laid-back with her Dakal tribe. She knew the votes were piling up against her, so at tribal council, she made not one but two moves that no one saw coming. She played a Hidden Immunity Idol to nullify any votes cast against her. And she played another Hidden Immunity Idol to save Jeremy Collins from being ousted.
Sandra Diaz-Twine, a queen bee who has sat out most team Immunity Challenges and has won two prior 'Survivor” seasons, cast a vote against Stapley, saying the move 'was for show.” But in the end, Stapley got four votes, none of which counted. The fifth vote kicked Diaz-Twine to the Edge of Extinction, leaving the others with their jaws in the sand.
The game of strategy, strength and stamina plays out at 7 p.m. Wednesdays on CBS-TV and CBS All Access.
