Hanson 60th Anniversary
Hanson 60th Anniversary
Sixty years. Five children. Twelve cherished
grandchildren. Thousands of memories.
From Barney and Pat's first inauspicious meeting
in 1953 (he brought another girl to her house and Pat opened the door in her pajamas) to their
wedding on Nov. 19, 1955, to 60 years later,
Barney Hanson and Pat Steggall Hanson have
walked a wondrous path together.
One soft little bundle arrived, and they were thrilled beyond measure. Then No. 2…3…4…and 5, each
greeted with joy. As the years marched on, Pat and Barney's open hearts embraced not only their
beloved children, and their friends…and friends of their friends…but those alone in life. They became surrogate parents to many young souls.
The Hanson house became known for its warmth,
its fun, its laughter, its kind listening ears, its
understanding. Pat's homemade cinnamon rolls,
pies and noodles, and Barney's chili, are famous. Activity-wise, all the Hansons love sports and music.
A strong moral compass and love of family created
a tight bond rarely seen today. Rarer still, it has
been passed down to the next generation of
"dozens of cousins," as close as close can be.
The five children, shown at right (from l-r): Ann (Bob) Sheetz, Oxford, IN; Beth (Steve) Melchior, Fairfax; Steve Hanson, Marshalltown; Amy (Greg) Stewart, Fairfax; Jane (Brian) Lasko, Lakeville, MN.
It's been a full, rich 60 years. The bucket list is full.
