High school volleyball: Tuesday’s seven area 5A, 4A and 3A regional finals.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released the Class 3A and 4A substate pairings that begin July 11. The 1A and 2A districts and substates have already been released and start July 5. Here’s some matchups to of Gazette area Iowa High School Baseball teams.

Linn-Mar’s boys’ basketball team definitely belongs somewhere in Class 4A’s top 10. But the Lions dropped one at the ServPro Crossover Challenge to Ankeny on Saturday, 61-55, in part due to the absence of point guard Trey Wright (flu) and not getting the ball inside enough to star Davis Kern.

Pairings were set Thursday for the 14-team, 7-game crossover event, which will be held January 4th at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse. Matchups include Cedar Falls and West Des Moines Valley, Dubuque Senior and Waukee Northwest, and Cedar Rapids Kennedy versus Johnston.

Former West Delaware Coach Jeff Voss will be inducted into the Battle of Waterloo Hall of Fame, while his son, Jake, has taken the reins of the program, competing in a bracket named after the former head coach.

Head football coaches in Class 5A, District 6 selected Iowa City West senior quarterback Jack Wallace as the district’s Most Valuable Player. Scott Chandler and his assistants at Iowa City Liberty is the Coaching Staff of the Year.
