A slithering good time

Snakes can make people nervous sometimes. But here is a snake you want to have in your house. All you need to make this snake is a paper plate (Styrofoam plates don't work as well), markers or crayons, scissor and a piece of string.
Trace a spiral onto a paper plate. The spiral can be as thick or as thin as you want it. The thinner the spiral the longer your snake will be.
Carefully begin to cut your snake out following the spiral. You can decorate your snake before or after you cut it out. We prefer to color our snake after we cut it out. Have an adult help you look up different types of snakes and copy their patterns and markings.
Once your snake is finished, poke a hole in the top of the head and run a string through it. You can glue googly eyes to the snake or cover it in glitter.
Hang the snake outside where you can watch it twirl and spin in the breeze. Photographed in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. (Lyz Lenz/The Gazette)
