Class 1A, 2A and 4A state football championships scheduled for Friday at the UNI-Dome have been postponed to Monday due to snow in the weather forecast, the IHSAA announced Thursday afternoon.
A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service prompted the move.
'The welfare of teams traveling home on Friday in conjunction with the safety of fans traveling contributed to the decision,' the IHSAA said in a release.
Area teams Iowa City Regina (1A), Mount Vernon (2A) and Cedar Rapids Kennedy (4A) are impacted.
Kickoff times will follow the same schedule.
1A: Iowa City Regina vs. Western Christian, 11 a.m.
2A: Mount Vernon vs. Spirit Lake, 2 p.m.
4A: Cedar Rapids Kennedy vs. West Des Moines Dowling, 7 p.m.
The games will now not be shown on TV, but will be streamed online.
8-player, Class A and Class 3A championships took place Thursday.
The UNI-Dome is home to the Northern Iowa football team, indoor track and field, Iowa High School Athletic Association state football playoffs, concerts and other events. (UNI Athletics)
