Katie Boeding of Moser School of Dance and Gymnastics achieved elite status for tumbling last month at a meet in Waverly.
A junior at Iowa State who works out with her club whenever possible, Boeding has been a member of Moser's for 18 years and has competed with USTA for 17 years.
She has competed at the advanced level for eight years and this is her second year gaining elite status. She first accomplished elite status in 2011 and suffered a knee injury during a high school track meet in 2012 and could not compete for more than a year.
There are only seven USTA tumblers holding elite status in the state of Iowa. To qualify for elite, a tumbler must achieve a total combined difficulty score of 8.0 or higher from a five-skill and eight-skill pass. Boeding qualified with an 8.1 difficulty. Her first pass was round off-full-whip-full-barani. Her eight-skill pass consisted of round off-full-whip-whip-full-flip flop-full-barani.
She will compete at the national meet in Rapid City, S.D., in June.
