Area teams capture state basketball titles

ANKENY - Youth basketball teams from Mount Vernon, Dyersville and Iowa City won titles recently at the Pacesetter Youth Basketball State Championships at the Kingdom Hoops Complex.
Mount Vernon won the sixth-grade boys' title with a 32-30 win over Panora, Dyersville captured the boys' seventh-grade crown with a 40-28 win over Okoboji, and Iowa City rolled over Fairfield, 68-61, for the eighth-grade boys' crown.
Waukon won the eight-grade girls' title, beating Sioux City North, 44-36.
Dyersville's fifth-grade team and Center Point-Urbana's ninth-grade team were runners-up in the boys' field, earning a spot - along with the champions - in the Pacesetter Four-State Championships in Minneapolis later this summer.
TWISTERS' CRILLEY WINS REGIONAL TITLES
Leah Crilley of Twisters Gymnastics won the Xcel Gold vault and all around at the regional championships, hosted by Iowa Gym-Nest last weekend.
Other Twisters winners were Sydney Huber (beam) in Xcel Bronze, Abigail Green (all around) and Lyndsey Wheeler (floor exercise) in Xcel Silver, Chloe Hamer (floor) in Xcel Gold, and Anna Penning (floor) in Xcel Platinum.
Bronze placewinners were Kelsey Klesner and Kira Klesner. Meghan Burtis, Larissa Cleveland, Catherine Schooley, Madison Marcus, McKenna Haugen and Taryn Bortz placed in silver; Amelia Berger, Hannah Roth, Brook Pladsen, Payton Basquin and Blair Pladsen in gold; Aliyah Burtis and Gabby Schroud in platinum; and Sarah Nolting and Skylar Meyers in diamond.
