Marvin Wesley Doschadis was born November 27, 1918, in Graceville, Minn., son of Olga and Ryan Doschadis. Olga passed away when he was 18 months old. Ryan remarried Ethel Kump. Marvin graduated from Browns Valley High School in 1937 and after working with the Civil Conservation Corp, he received a scholarship to Coe College. Marv proudly served his country as an ensign in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Caliente in World War II.
Marvin graduated from Coe College and was united in marriage to Cecilia Mulneaux on June 7, 1947. Marv taught and coached in Newhall, Graettinger and Hartley, Iowa. Teaching and coaching was a treasured time in his life.
In 1958 Marv began working with insurance and moved to Mount Pleasant. He was an adjuster for IMT Insurance and in 1966 bought the Welsh Insurance Agency in Williamsburg. He was president of the Iowa Mutual Insurance Association in 1987. After retiring from his insurance career, he continued working at the Tanger Bass Store for more than 19 years.
Marv was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club (past president) and the VFW and American Legion (past commander). Also, Marv was instrumental in reviving the Little League Program in Williamsburg.
Marv and Cec enjoyed traveling to insurance conventions, USS Caliente ship reunions and MANY trips to Las Vegas, including a 1997 Vegas trip with all their grandsons.
During a very meaningful trip in 2008 to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., Marv was honored to be in the foursome laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Marv was also honored when asked to present the flag at military funerals and was proud to do this for our veterans.
Marv was very involved with the Williamsburg community. As “Community Person of the Year”, he served as grand marshal of the July Fourth parade. He enjoyed attending sporting events and encouraged local students. His years in Williamsburg were very treasured by him.
Marv loved life with a remarkable spirit, touching many lives along the way. This was his “true way of living”. He always said there was good in everyone if you could just give them a chance.
Marv's devotion to his family was always first and foremost. He did all he could, anytime he could, to help and support his family.
