Brett Henderson was not your typical dad. As the youngest captain in the history of the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, Brett strived for excellence in everything he did. From volunteering as a coach for his daughters' YMCA sports teams, to mastering the timeclock for YMCA Stoney Point Stingray swim meets, Brett did his best to support not only his family but his YMCA community.
Brett passed away from cancer in January 2008. In honor of his life-long commitment to YMCA youth sports, the YMCA Stoney Point Stingrays dedicate the relays to him.
The Brett Henderson Relays will be held Sunday, February 13 at the Stoney Point YMCA, 300 Stoney Point Rd SW in Cedar Rapids. Both relay and individual events for kids and adults will be held throughout the day. All proceeds support the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign, a campaign that raises much-needed dollars for deserving kids and families in need of a place to spend quality time together. When you give to the Y, you continue to strengthen our community and move us all forward. As the nation's leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y uses your gift to make a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood.
The Brett Henderson Relays will be scored, and not only will the top swimmers from each event win a custom medal, the winning team will be have the chance to take both a trophy and a cash prize to be donated to the swimming scholarship fund of their choice. Events will be scored through twelve places, and each team will be limited to 3 entries per event. Entries must be marked by February 4, 2011 to be eligible to swim. Meet entry forms can be found at any YMCA branch or online at www.crmetroymca.org. Look on the Programs and Services page for a link to the registration form. Contact the Aquatics Director at the Stoney Point YMCA at 319.390.3488 for more information.

The Cedar Rapids Metro Y makes strengthening our communities our cause. By offering affordable child care to low- and middle-income families, by developing early values in youth, by helping military families cope with having a family member overseas, and through so many other programs that promote a healthy spirit, mind and body. More than 13,000 people of all ages and walks of life who turn to one of our more 4 YMCA branches + YMCA Camp Wapsie each year know we're here for them, because we've been here for them the last 142 years. That's why we're one of the largest community service organizations in the U.S. We count on the generosity of our members and partners to keep our doors open to whoever needs a place to go to help them be more healthy, confident, connected and secure.
