Driscoll urges gun amendment foes to move

In a meeting on March 20 with Benton County residents, state Sen. Dawn Driscoll, R-Williamsburg, spoke about adding language on gun rights to the Iowa Constitution. She is quoted as saying to those who don't want a vote on the constitutional amendment, 'If you don't like it, then you need to move ... Iowans are very passionate about this.”
Is it appropriate for a senator to tell her constituents (who help pay her salary) to move instead of explaining her position? Some people, including police officers and lawmakers, worry about the specific language in the proposed amendment. They wanted it to use different wording or to use the text of the Second Amendment. Should they move too?
I guess Sen. Driscoll also doesn't want businesses who don't agree with her to move to and invest in Iowa. And I don't see how she can expect the rest of America to trust Iowa with the caucuses - the first vote of the presidential primary. After all, Iowans' views represent a minority of the country on many issues.
The senator needs to do better.
