SOLON - Kevin Miller is a Solon guy, and not even the allure of one of the best jobs in the state of Iowa could make him leave.
The Spartans head football coach is still the Spartans head football coach after turning down an offer to take over at Iowa City West, multiple sources said.
Miller would not confirm when contacted Thursday night he had been offered the West job, only that he applied and interviewed for it. Brian Sauser left West last month to take an assistant coaching job at a school in Oklahoma.
'It is a great opportunity, appealing,” Miller said. 'But I bleed orange and black.”
Miller has won four state championships at Solon: three in Class 2A and one in 3A. He and his wife have a daughter who attends high school there and a son in middle school.
It was being able to watch them and potentially coach them that won out in the end.
'At the end of the day, it would have been selfish on my part (to take the West job),” he said.
West Athletics Director Scott Kibby said Thursday afternoon he hoped to be able to name a new football coach sometime during the weekend. It will be interesting to see if that timetable has changed.
