S.A. Michael A. Randolph Ret., 59, of Anamosa, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, in his home from pancreatic cancer. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anamosa. Father Wayne Droessler will officiate at the service, Deacon Mike Klappholz will assist. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa, where a Scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa.
Surviving are his wife, Lisa; mother, Margaret of Anamosa; four sisters, twin sister Mary (Cliff) Carter of Williamsburg, Phyllis Randolph of Williamsburg, Julie (William) Briggs of Eldridge and Suzanne (Michael) Heidgerken of North Liberty; four brothers, Aaron Jr. (Jean) of Marion, Tom of Waterloo, Robert of Anamosa and John (Valerie) of Muscatine; mother- and father-in-law, Cecil and Sandra VanPelt of Mechanicsburg, Ill.; sister-in-law, Angela (D Edward) Willhite of Troy, Ill.; numerous nieces and nephews; and two birds, Al Capon aka Alice and Tootsie.
He was preceded in death by his father and two nephews.
Michael Ambrose Randolph was born May 24, 1952, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Dr. Aaron Peter Randolph Sr. and Margaret Mally. He was a 1970 graduate of Anamosa High School, a 1974 graduate of St. Ambrose University and 1978 graduate of Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., with his Juris Doctorate. Michael passed the Iowa Bar Exam in 1978 and then worked for the Iowa State Attorneys Office for a year. Late in 1979 he attended the FBI academy in Quantico, Va., before graduating in 1980. He was assigned to the Omaha, Neb., division of the FBI. In 1981, he was reassigned to the Los Angeles division. In 1990, he was assigned to the Springfield division and late in1998, reassigned to the San Diego division. On May 15, 1999, Michael and Lisa VanPelt were united in marriage at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anamosa. After his retirement in 2002, the couple returned to Anamosa.
Michael was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Anamosa, Fawn Creek Country Club, 3rd Degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus, Paul Harris Fellow and Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. He enjoyed participating with the community, golfing, gardening, birds, the ocean, scuba diving, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, trips fishing in Canada and an avid Hawkeye fan, but the thing he treasured most was the time he got to spend with his wife Lisa and his family.
He was a loving son, husband and brother and will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jones Regional Medical Center or the Above and Beyond Hospice of Monticello.
