Garwood, Macy E.
Macy E. Garwood, 89, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton, with the Rev. Karen Larson officiating. Friends may call at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Ave., Vinton, from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Interment and graveside military rites will be held at Union Cemetery in Guthrie Center at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Macy was born April 22, 1920, in Dale City, Iowa, to Clinton Hobart and Minnie Leone (Arrasmith) Garwood, and graduated from Stuart High School in 1938. On Feb. 21, 1943, he was united in marriage to Clara Tallman in Guthrie County. During World War II, he served his nation in the U.S. Army in the Philippines.
Macy was manager of the Benton County R.E.C. from 1966 until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton and enjoyed woodworking and fishing. His love for his family was always his greatest priority and joy.
He is survived by his wife, Clara, of Vinton; his sons, J.D. (Carol) Garwood of Waterloo, Ted (Deanna) Garwood of Ogden and Macy Jr. “Sam” (Cindy Ann) Garwood of Vinton; his grandson, Jayson Garwood; his granddaughters, Lisa Garwood, Charlotte Taylor, Tina Lowe, Roxanne Lindaman and Sue Ann Winters; his stepgranddaughters, Jaclyn Rich and Lisa Sheehy; his stepgrandson, Kevin Sheehy; 15 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Warren (Bonnie) Garwood of Dexter and Jim Garwood of Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Hobart Garwood.
