Gerald "Jerry" Geers, 80,
of Marion, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends one hour prior to Mass at the church on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Jerry was born Oct. 5, 1937, at home on the farm near Petersburg, Iowa, the son of Gerard and Frieda (Henkels) Geers. He served honorably in the U.S. Army. Jerry attended college at Divine Word of God. He was united in marriage to Marjorie "Marjie" Duggan on Aug. 15, 1979, in Cedar Rapids.
He worked as a heat treater at Evergreen for 35 years, retiring in 1999. Jerry loved sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed fishing, and visiting casinos with his wife. Jerry was a proud member of the UAW. He was a good father to his children, a devoted husband of 38 years and a loving grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Geers; children, Scott (Lisa) Geers, Lisa (Jim) Renfer, Mark (Michelle) Geers, Kimberly Geers, Donna Steger, Mike (Taleigha) Steger, Angela Steger and Matthew Geers; many grandchildren; three sisters; eight brothers; brother- and sister-in law; and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Shawn Michael Geers in 2007; and four brothers.
