Shana Catherine Chavez, 16, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Shana is still giving life as an organ donor. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends one hour before the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her parents, Shane and Lisa Bowers; sister, Chevelle Chavez; grandparents, Doug and Cathy Dlouhy of Palo and Bev Chavez and Ron Walton, both of Cedar Rapids; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Shana was born on Feb. 20, 1999, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Shane and Lisa (Chavez) Bowers. She attended Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and was really eager to succeed in life. Shana loved taking photos, baking, shopping with her mom, playing volleyball, fishing, camping and anything outdoors. She also loved spending time with children and hanging with her "squadies." Shana was known to be witty and always had something funny to say. In the short time she was here, she impacted many people's lives and would sacrifice her own needs for the needs of others. If you didn't have a smile, she would give you hers.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the first responders and the Cedar Rapids police.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the family.
