Kemp, Gertrude R.
Gertrude R. Kemp, 91, of Iowa City, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, with the Rev. Rebecca Carver officiating. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Tipton Masonic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Gertrude, and her daughter, Lisa Biggs Suter.
Gertrude was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Tipton, the daughter of O.I. and Gertrude Hazelton Clover. She was a 1936 graduate of Tipton High School. Gertrude married Max L. Biggs in 1941. Max died in 1972. Gertrude married Richard E. Kemp in 1975. Gertrude was a longtime employee of the Cedar County Assessors Office and before that had worked for the federal government and Wilkins Appraisal Co. She moved to Iowa City in 1984.
Gertrude is survived by nieces and nephews, Jim (Leah Rae) Highly of Fairfax, Paul (Tracy) Sailor of Dillsboro, Ind., Steve (Kitty) Highly of Iowa City, Ann (Loren) Rings of Brookings, Ore., and Paul “Tim” (Shari) Clover of San Rafael, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Max and Richard; her beloved daughter, Lisa; three sisters, Elizabeth Highly, Margaret Sailor and Ruth Fiala; and three brothers, Robert, Jimmie and Paul Clover.
