RICHARD "DICK" COTTRELL
Shellsburg
Richard "Dick" Cottrell, 60, of Shellsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at his home following complications of Alzheimer's disease. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Phillips Funeral Homes in Vinton, is in charge of arrangements.
Richard Dale Cottrell was born March 1, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Louis and Mary Ellen (Wendt) Cottrell, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Shellsburg High School. On Feb. 14, 1985, Dick was united in marriage to Lisa Burt in Palo.
Dick was a Harley-Davidson mechanic and later worked for Gardemann Excavating. He loved to ride his motorcycles, work on his Chevys and tinker in his shop. Dick would always make time to have a beer and visit with his friends. He loved and spoiled his dog, Speck.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa; son, Tony; brother, Mike (Irma) Cottrell; sister, Becky (Mike) Robinson, and nephew, Tommy Robinson, both of Shellsburg; his mother-in-law, Kathy (Tom) Houlahan, and father-in-law, Melvin (Doris) Burt, both of Cedar Rapids; his sister-in-law, Linda Reynolds of Marion; nephew, Nathan Reynolds of Cedar Rapids; his beloved dog, Speck; and very special friends, John and Melea Merchant of Vinton.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Patrick Robinson.
