Brown, Marvin 'Pete' II
Marvin “Pete” Brown II, 74, of 3004 Tiperary Dr. NE, died at home with his family and loved ones at his side, Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church by the Rev. Martha Rogers. Inurnment: Christ Episcopal Church Columbarium. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 10 a.m. at the church on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife Nancy Gearhart-Brown, his children, Marvin F. Brown II (Susan) of Springville, Sarah E. Lange (Roy) of Cedar Rapids, Elizabeth A. Borg of Sherman, Texas, and James E. Brown (Raiann) of Cedar Rapids, and his grandchildren, Josh, Haley, Samie, Heather, Mariah, Spencer, Gabby, Kate, Jake, Jebril and Isaac. Also his stepchildren: Charlie Humphreys (Laura) of Dallas, Texas, James C. Humphreys (Bridgit) of Cedar Rapids, Elizabeth Humphreys of Dallas, Texas and Melissa Dougherty (Tony) of Australia.
His first wife, Joan, his parents, a sister, Celia, and two grandchildren, Lilo and Ryan, preceded him in death.
Pete was born April 15, 1935 in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of Marvin F. Brown I and Gervea Davenport Brown. He married Joan Weigel on Feb. 11, 1956 in Mount Clemons, Mich. She preceded him in death in 2000. Pete and Joan lived in Marshalltown from 1967 until 1984. Pete was joined in marriage to Nancy Gearhart-Brown in 2001. He was owner and operator of Marion Iron Company until his retirement in 1998. Although retirement for him meant more time to devote to his love of golf, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of Elmcrest Country Club and Christ Episcopal Church. Pete was active with the Marshalltown Jaycees, American Heart Association, Marion Chamber of Commerce and MEDCO to name only a few of the many organizations and individuals that he touched. He was on the board for Elmcrest Country Club, Hilltop Manor, and The Scholarship Foundation for Elmcrest Employees. Pete was an active community volunteer; always willing to do whatever he could to help others that had been less fortunate than himself. He was a very generous, fun loving, compassionate, and giving man. Many will remember him for that kindness and charity. To know him was a blessing to all of us, he will be greatly missed.
