DES MOINES -- Linn-Mar's Alijah Jeffery was inches from falling short again of the state finals. But he fought off a deep overtime shot by Southeast Polk's Nolan Hellickson and went on to win in a tie-break period, moving on to the finals for the first time in his career.
Neither Jeffery nor Hellickson could get past the other's defense for almost the entire match. And after Jeffery rode Hellickson for the entire 30 seconds of his tie-break period, he burst up and kicked loose from the bottom for the winning point.
Jeffery will face Bettendorf's Paul Glynn in the 3A 120-pound finals tomorrow.
