71, of Marion, passed Wednesday, March 14, 2018,
at home. Funeral service:
11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion. Visitation: 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial with military honors: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Donna Wyant, John Dean, Tina (Allen) Klaugh, James "Ric" (Cynda) Rink, David (Roxanne) Bednar, Eric "Scott" (Keiko) Rink and Melanie Rink; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Cathy (Kenny) Smith, Barbara (Kene) Bacon and Margaret Konie; uncle, Bob Rink; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Patrick Joseph Rink was born Feb. 24, 1947, in Monticello, to Richard and Jeanette (Soppe) Rink. He attended Maquoketa Valley High School in Delhi until leaving to join the Army in 1967, serving in Vietnam. He worked as a mechanic for the Army, at his dad's service station, and later owned his own station. He was always tinkering in the garage. He married Ellen Dougherty on Dec. 28, 1985. They enjoyed traveling, going to the casino and playing cards.
Shorty was a smart aleck and always quick with a witty comment. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and loved spending time with family. He truly had a good heart and will be missed greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ellen; granddaughter, Sarah; and niece, Sheila.
A memorial fund has been established.
