Stevan Scott Smith, 62, died Friday morning, Jan. 24, 2014.
He was born Dec. 23, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, to Mildred (Johnson) and Rex Smith Sr. He was a
graduate of the University of Iowa with a business
degree. He married Patricia Franey on Aug. 28, 1971.
Steve was co-owner of Rexco Equipment for 46 years.
He was an avid member of Meredith Drive Reformed Church in Des Moines. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling to warm destinations and cheering on the Hawkeyes.
Steve is survived by his wife, Patti; son, Casey (Nikki); daughter, Melanie Smith; brothers, Rex Jr. (Ellen) and Mike (Gaye) Dougherty; sisters, Sherry (Dick) Cornish and Linda (Bob) Driscoll; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Joseph and Margret Franey; and stepmother-in-law, Naomi Franey.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at Meredith Drive Reformed Church, 5128 Meredith Dr., Des Moines. Memorial
services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Highland Memorial Gardens.
