Levy, Elizabeth E.
Mrs. Elizabeth E. Levy, 90, of Marion, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at Willow Gardens Care Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Word of Faith Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, with Pastor Wendell Beets and Pastor Damian Epps of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Ave. NW.
Elizabeth was born Aug. 27, 1919, in Waverly, Ark., the daughter of the Rev. Henry and Lillie B. (Strickland) Johnson. She married Robert L. Levy Sr. on April 18, 1935. To this union 13 children were born. Elizabeth was employed at Mercy Hospital as a dietitian for 18 years until her retirement. She was a devoted member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church from 1964 until the day she passed. She was on the Mothers Board and was in charge of the kitchen. Elizabeth was famous citywide for her five-flavored pound cake. She enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting, gardening, and most of all fishing. She also enjoyed telling all who would listen about her Lord and Savior.
Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory sons, Robert Levy and James Levy of Cedar Rapids and John (Carol) Levy of St. Paul, Minn.; daughters, Lillie B. Washington, Doris Poole and Ethel Levy, all of Cedar Rapids, Margaree Levy of St. Paul, Minn., Norain Jamison of Louise, Miss., and Blanchie (Roy) Broomfield of Belzoni, Miss.; 50 grandchildren; 150 great-grandchildren; a host of great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Johnson of Racine, Wis.; sisters, Essie B. Coleman and Lillie M. Smothers, both of Marion, Ark.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Levy Sr.; parents, the Rev. Henry and Lillie B. Johnson; daughter, Edna Mae Stamps; and sons, Oscar Levy, J.B. Levy and A.B. Levy.
