Marion Eden, 90, of Hills, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. His body has been deeded to the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa.
A memorial service will be at noon Sunday, Nov. 20, with a celebration of his life to follow. Both events will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion.
Marion Benson Eden was born Nov. 21, 1925, south of Lone Tree, Iowa. He graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1944. He married Carolyn Fay McLean on Sept. 2, 1958, in Lone Tree. They farmed in rural Johnson County until selling the farm and moving to Hills. After moving to Hills, Marion worked for his son, Chris, in his real estate business and for Waterfront Hy-Vee until shortly before his death.
Marion was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Lone Tree Lions fan. He enjoyed an active social life with his wife, Carolyn. They enjoyed traveling, going to ball games, concerts and dances. They had been members of Iowa City Moose Lodge No. 1096 since 1981. They were members of Lone Tree United Presbyterian Church from the time of its founding in December 1975. Marion served on the Board of Deacons, Building and Grounds committee and as assistant to the financial secretary. Marion also had been a member of Abner Lodge No. 535 of the Masons of Lone Tree since being raised in 1952.
Marion is survived by three sons, Anthony DeWayne and his wife, Linmarie, and their sons, Michael and Matthew; Marion Douglas (Doug), and his son, B.J. (Barry Jordan); and Christopher Todd, and his wife, Trina, and their children, Grant Eden, Natalie Roetlin and Spencer Roetlin; two sisters, Betty Catherine Eden Kirchner and Juanita Lavon Eden Kirkpatrick (Lavon) and her husband, David Kirkpatrick; sisters-in-law, Irmgard Eden (Mrs. Hubert Eden), Delores Eden (Mrs. Bill Eden), Fran McLean (Mrs. Chuck McLean) and Mary McLean (Mrs. Jack McLean); cousins, Wendell Eden and his wife, Betty, Beverly Eden Felt and her husband, Don Felt, and Margaret Eden (Mrs. Don Eden); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Marion was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his parents, Charles and Hilma Eden; four brothers: William Carroll Eden (Carroll) and his wife, Elma; Robert Edwin Eden (Bob) and his wife, Elaine; William Dale Eden (Bill); and Charles Hubert Eden (Hubert); one sister, Florence Elizabeth Eden Millsap and her husband, Kenneth Millsap; one cousin, Don Eden; and brothers-in-law, Don Kirchner, Chuck McLean, Jack McLean and James McLean.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lone Tree United Presbyterian Church or Lone Tree Health Care Center.
